Last May, just after the end of the quarantine period, I looked for a place where I could escape from the city for a week while keep working online from my computer. I wanted to stay on the productive side while relieving the stress that had been built up because of the overwhelming nature of living in a city. I had visited Agios Nikolaos in the past for my summer vacations and I thought it would be an ideal choice. Searching for accommodation was not difficult, Agios Nikolaos has a lot of apartments and hotels available, and I made my reservation online with no trouble. When I arrived, reality exceeded my expectations. A cosy and modern apartment overlooking the sea, just a stone’s throw from various beaches and the city centre and constant and robust Wi-Fi connectivity in all areas of the apartment. No reason whatsoever for using a car…

My everyday routine was exactly what I had been looking for. In the morning I would walk for 10 minutes to one of the beaches and enjoy the refreshing sea breeze and the relaxing view. I would swim for approximately half an hour in crystal clear waters, have coffee and breakfast and return to the apartment. I found myself handling business calls, email messages and work in a totally different mood. I had already recharged my batteries on the very first day!

At noon, once again on foot, I would go to one of the city’s restaurants. Every day I would go to a different one. The quality and the overall service were excellent. I would return home for a quick check of my workload and rest.

In the afternoon I would go for a quick dip in the sea and coffee before getting back to work. I even took my laptop with me a couple of times to combine work and swimming in the sea! Working in a swimsuit was a true luxury… I would do it all year round if I had the opportunity!

All nights took me back to my summer vacations. Relaxed walks along the promenade, the lake and the port, a light drink before dinner and then more drinks in one of the bars listening to good music and enjoying great views.

The only time I used a car was on the weekend. I thought of making two short trips to nearby beaches. I went to one of the many car rental agencies where they also gave me useful information. On Saturday I went to the breathtaking Voulisma beach in the area of Kalo Chorio (just a 15-minute drive) and on Sunday I visited the area of Elounda (once again just a 15-minute drive) and the more secluded but equally beautiful Kolokytha beach.

It was a week to remember in a unique place where I combined business with pleasure. I will certainly recommend Agios Nikolaos to my associates!
